Internship at Cisco Systems

I had a great time at Cisco Systems. I was basically involved in the development of Room Scheduling system which would be integrated to some of Cisco's solutions.

The working condition at Cisco was great! I did not feel bored at all while working at Cisco. There were free flow of variety of drinks, cookies, fruits, and at times buffets to enjoy. The people there were extremely friendly, maybe bcoz most of them are still young. As far as I could see, not many complained or sulked about coming to work.

I took this chance to learn as much as possible about Cisco, its way of business and some its solutions. Cisco is really focused on connecting people. The world would be a great place if all of us, friends and family, can stay connected even if physically far far away.

I am extremely happy that I was given a chance to work at Cisco. Btw, I did not manage to go on the overseas trip due to problems on Cisco side.

Managed to find a job during the holidays. Must thank Eleanor for referring me to the job. Worked for Parkway Group. It was really a great chance for me to make new contacts. I came across many people with different backgrounds. Most of them shared their experiences with me which has allowed me to broaden my view. I am really glad to know all of these new people.

I'll be staying on in the company's Information Services Division as a part timer. Hopefully I can get the networking job.

Cisco Express - Network on Wheels work attachment

A sudden but a golden opportunity. The cisco attachment news came only on the 20th of Sept. Didn't believe what I heard at first when Mr Bob Hum was explaining.

This attachment program is to be attended during the final year Industrial Attachment Programme. IAP is 8 credits. Most probably would be changing course path so that we can attend the attachment in march/april. NYP has selected a handful of us. We still have to go through the selection process by Cisco. Hopefully, I can do well during the interview.

As far as I know, many people who are interested in networking wants to work in Cisco. It is a great place to work in. I am really excited to go for it. Met a few top staffs of Cisco during the MoU signing ceremony. They were all friendly and cool.

Thanks to cisco for providing this opportunity. And, of course, to NYP staff who worked hard to make this dream come true.

I do not what happened to my com skill. Had scored quite well for ICA and the test paper was easy. Maybe, my very first class assignment pulled me down. Haizz!

I am still surprised that I managed to get Distinction for WPDP. Still cannot belive it.

Anyway, there are still 3 more sems to go. I must not slack anymore. Or I'll fail to get what I want.

Oh, before I forget, my GPA now is 3.594.

Module Request Form is Useless...

I took French last semester as I thought I would be able to cope with it this time round. However, I failed to reach my goal. Hence, decided to request for a change in complementary studies module.

There are 2 ways in wchich I can drop out from French. The first way is to submit a opt-out form. And it is 100% guatrantee you won't get that module. However, the opt-out form is to be submitted before the results come out. I thought I would do quite well and hence decided not to submit it. The second way is to submit a request. And this one, there is very little chance for the success.

Here I am... Forced to take up French Language 2. I don't mind the new lecturer. But, I'm scared of the module itself. Anw, what's done can't be undone. All I can do now is to work as hard as I can to get better results for FL2.

CCNA - Intro: Voucher Exam

Did my voucher exam yesterday for CCNA Into paper. It was very tough. Gave up half way thru. But still managed to 86.2%. The passing mark is 85%. I have to work very hard before I sit for the real exam. I'm intending to take it by the end of May or during the 2 weeks holiday in June.

Lessons have begun. And I hate the timetable for this sem. It is very pack.

Monday is hol.
Tuesday is from 9 - 5.
Wednesday is from 9 - 6. (3 - 6 is optional elective)
Thursday is from 8 - 3. (The shortest day.)
Friday is from 10 - 8.30.

The breaks are juz 1 hour every day. Unlike the past few sems.

The modules for this sem seems hard. A lot of challenging modules. Even maths is challenging. Anw, I hope I can cope with all 10 modules.

Rotting at home...

The lessons should have begun for most NYP-ians, except for my class and 0605 - as far as i noe. Every monday is going to be a holiday for this sem as the night class falls on friday and this means a long weekend.

This sem modules seems quite difficult. Hopefully I can put in more effort and get better results for this sem.

Just watched the movie 300. It's been long since I saw such a great movie. The movie is fantastic. The plot, the fighting scenes, the characters and even the music is great. The flow is also great.

SIT Freshmen Orientation 07/08

The past 3 weeks, I was busy with the orientation. The first 2 weeks was to help with the planning. The first 2 weeks was really tiring. MAybe I wasn't tt tired compared some people. Anyway, they were super busy weeks.

I joined to become OGL is for CCA points as well as to test out my abilities. It was good but I didn't like some things on the process of getting things done. Anyway, I managed to get some new experiences through this orientation.

I even managed to get a fantastic class to lead. It is 0708. They were really great. Usually some classes have reserved people and some even defiant. But 0708 was really cooperative and the job was easy. And of course I should thank my fellow OGLs who were cooperative as well. Btw pics would be uploaded to multiply. Can enjoy 'em there!!

So fast 8 days has passed since new year.

This term is a busy one as there are only 5 more weeks of lesson before the start of semester exams. Got 3 tests this week. IAD quiz, CCNA final online test, and PMP quiz. I have yet to start on the website. Seems like I got indulged in PMP mini project so much that I could not set aside some time for the website. I must start on Wednesday or I'll be a dead meat!

Anw, someone came for graphic design 10 mins before the end of lesson.

School Update

Have been watching prison break Season 1 episode 1 thru season 2 episode 13... Damn it is a nice show. Cannot believe how the writer thinks. He is very good at twisting the way things turn out. Anyway can't wait for the rest of the episodes. Would be able to catch it only in late jan.

Another series I watched is Lost Season 3. It has been paused at episode 6. Also cannot wait for the rest of the episodes.

Now for the real update...

DEP - Done until activity 3. Activity 4 seems simple but i don't understand the questions.

PMP (mini-project) - 80% done. Once I finish up the database and insert it to application, it shold work fine. But still got problems with some of the coding. So, I have to ask lecturer for help.

IAD (website) - haven't touch! Hope to start on Monday!

CCT - Was supposed to meet up with gene today! But couldn't! (Sorry Gene!!!) Hope we can finish it in 3 weeks. Then the fourth week, we can relac!

That's about it for now... New year's coming... and I have got a lot of things that I want to complete in Yr 2007!!!

Council Gathering

Yesterday had a student council gathering. We went to pasir ris. Was great to see many of them. There were councillors from 2nd council to the 6th council. I was happy to see the seniors. The guys are in NS and gals are in the U. We had a lot of things to share. My batch of councillors are doin well in their respective JCs. It's good that all of them are doing well. My immediate juniors were all dicussing abt their first 3 mths. They are eager to know the kind of experience thay would get. Thank you guys for coming down and thank you to the organisers for organising this gathering. Hope to see you all next year as well...

Weird weeek!

Was volunteering for Blood Donation Drive on tuesday. I was late. When I was rushing up the escalator at the atrium, I bumped into this guy who looked like a friend of mine. So when he turned around, I quickly said "hi". I was shocked to find out that, he was not whom I thought it was. The irony was that, he quickly returned back my hi. Then he said the following,

"You are hhhhaja rite? You still remmember me ah!!!"

"Yeah" (Damn I dunno who u are!!!)

"Bye!"

That was weird start of the day.

Donated blood again!!! Feeling good.

On friday, I was late again. Luckily, my group didn't kena the first presentation. I saw someone presenting. (DAMN! Get a life man!) My group kena the last slot. Was okay. But, could have done better.

F***ed up days!!!

On the 15th of November, I became a little greedy and installed vista transformer to my windows xp. Guess what happened... The computer was to be restarted... and that's the end... my com could not locate the hard disk. The error was that the file to read the hard disk had been removed from system32 folder. So I tried to repair the hard disk and the repair the installed xp.

Things seemed to be going smoothly. But then things started to haywire. At the next reboot, the windows explorer cannot be loaded. So I repaired the installed xp again. Things got better. Then, when I started to download the SP2 for xp, my hard disk was running out of space. What can I do with a 40gb hard disk. So, I tried to remove my movies, music and uninstalled some softwares. And yet, the space was not enough. Decided ro give up reformat the hard disk and reinstall xp. Great things were much better. But, a stupid virus which had attacked my com last time, started to attack again. I was so irritated.

I decided to buy a new hard disk as I have got a lot of school work to do. Went to sim lim to get a new hard disk. It was 80gb. Reinstalled the windows. Then carried on to reinstall the drivers. Then connected to the internet and downloaded SP2 and installed it. After the installation, the perfectly working internet, experienced frequent disconnection. I had to restart about every 5 mins to surf the net. The funny thing was that when I tried to download any softwares, the download was not affected when the internet got disconnected or rather when the web pages cannot be loaded. I was so irritated. So decided to call up singnet for help.

I called the singnet and waited to be directed to a customer service officer. When I was connected to him, I told him the exact problem. And guess what he told me to do a network check. Meaning whether I was able to get a connection to the internet. Wait! Didn't I told him that the problem is with surfing and not with connection to modem and the ISP. I spent about 20mins to check whether I was connected to the ISP. Of course connected to them. The problem lies with the settings in my com. I thought they could help me. But, they were f***ing useless. You want to know why they f***ing useless, I called 5 other times and all told me to do the same thing. And when I called 1 last time, that guy told me that they cannot help me as the problem lies with my com. That was great! I spent so much time just to get this kind of answer.

Decided to take a risk! I went to do some configuration and at last my internet was back to normal. And finally my com is back to full workning condition. I am happy that the diploma that I am pursuing now is not gone to waste!!!

It took me 6 days get back the com to its initial state. I did not manage to do a lot of my homework. And I have been so lucky to have escaped DEP presentation twice. I did not manage to finish up the e-assignments for CCNA. Hopefully Mr Bob Hum reactivates them.

Final words! Please take good care of your com. DO NOT INSTALL ANY SOFTWARE THAT YOU DO NOT TRUST!!! AND another thing... DO NOT DEPEND ON YOUR SERVICE PROVIDERS TO HELP YOU!!!

Singapore is suffering from haze due to our super dooper good neighbour Indonesia. And many people are suffering from the haze. So what to do now? Here is my solution. (May or may not work!)

1. Stay at HOME! This will minimise the exposure to the haze.
2. Close all windows, doors and all other openings which brings in air. This will prevent smoke from entering your premises.
3. Wear a face mask. To prevent breathing in of smoke particals.
4. If you follow the above you might just save yourself from the hazards of haze.

Note: By following the above mentioned solution, you might suffer from suffocation.

School holidays are over now. Back to school again. First day of school wasn't that boring. Had graphic design first thing in the morning. Mr Fauzan wasn't bad. The other guy, Mr Gan, who is in-charge of my group seems good too! Guess I won't have to suffer in graphic design. After graphic design, it was FRENCH! I still regret quitting french in Sec 1 for the pathetic CCA. But now I am going to put in effort and learn french. The french lecturer, Mr Didier Lame, is great. He is from France. He is good in communicating. And I am sure lessons goin to be great in his class.

With the new quad-core proceesors on its way, PCs would be performing at top speed. Would not have to worry about wait time, load time and etc. With 4 brains on one core, many impossible tasks would be made possible. And of course there would be many breakthrogh developments for the future. The future would really be exciting as technology gets better.

My predictions came true. Hady won!

Jonathan was good through out the show yesterday. However, he did not leave his comfort zone. He did not seem to challenge himself. Hady challenged himself too much that he went off pitch during the second song. But, the thing is that he challenged himself. The original song of this year's Singapore Idol sounded well with Hady's voice. He also managed to deliver it well.

I am sorry Hafizah for saying that Hady would not win at the very beginning. I admit that he is one of the best!

Fasting

Had my Computing Maths Exam today! For the first time after 4 years, I have felt happy at the end of the exam paper... I managed to do it within 1hr and 20 mins. The rest of the time was spent checking for errors. And I really hope I can get my A for this module! The only module that I am confident with! I must thank Ms Lim Lay Beng for doing a great job as a maths lecturer!

National Day Rally

Since 2000 or 2001, I have not missed PM's National Day rally. Maybe because, it's interesting and it helps one keep track of what has happened, what is happening now and what is going to happen. So what are the things that got me interested in yesterday's rally?

Here are some of them...

First, the population thing! As a second generation "Singaporean" or rather a third, I feel good to call Singapore a home... It's been 12 years since I migrated to Singapore and I have benefitted a lot from Singapore. My grandfather was the first one in here... He came long before WWII and Singapore's Independence. Then my father came at the age of 12, after WWII but before Singapore's Independence. My father went to the NS and was already a Singapore citizen. And as for me, I came to Singapore at the age of 8, and still pending for Singapore Citizenship!

Some good things about Singapore is that, Singapore has got a lot of opportunities! I am not saying that other countries do not have such opportunities! There are opportunities in other places but it is too risky to take them up as you have to consider alot before taking up that opportunity. Singapore is politically stable which makes it easier for the government to make decisions. But, of course, there are pros and cons of having the same party to rule the country!
However, the pros outweigh the cons!

PM Lee highlighted on locals getting angry about foreigners who skip NS. I am one of those whom they might be angry with! Actually I wanted to be a SAF officer. But some incidents that took place while in NCC(land) in secondary school changed my mind! And another thing that made me change my decision was, my age! I am currently 20, yet, I am only in year 1 in NYP! A relative, who is also 20, visited Singapore last month. He is doing his second year in one the leading Universities in India! I was very shocked! He'll be able start work very soon and make his dreams come true. If I were to go NS, I will be 29 by the time I start to work full time! Without NS, I can start as early as 26.

Second, the Digital age! This is something important to me as I am in the IT industry! Singapore is making a lot of effort to make Singapore an IT hub. And this really is boosting my confidence to work hard! I will have a lot of opportunities to help Singapore in it's dream!

With that, I would conclude here as I have to get back on my revision on Computing Maths!
